by Warren Kozireski

Junior Trevor Hodgins scored three goals and added four assists while teammate Aaron Buck netted four goals as Churchville-Chili opened the boys lacrosse season with a 15-4 victory over visiting Spencerport.

Freshman Matt Cobb opened the scoring just 42 seconds in before the Rangers Aidan Connolly evened the game just 34 seconds later.

The Saints took the lead for good at 2:41 of the first quarter with Hodgins getting his first after gathering up a ground ball and driving to the net. Jake Mortier later took a pass from Ryan Cosgrove and found the net at 6:39 of the first.

The teams each exchanged a pair of second quarter goals with Mortier and Cosgrove getting the C-C goals while Nick Ventrella and Matt Kaser scoring for the Rangers to make it 5-3 Saints at halftime.

Churchville-Chili then scored nine unanswered goals in the third and fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.

Hodgins and Buck scored in the first minute of the second half just ten seconds apart. Andrew Goodermote capitalized on a mishandled pass to the Spencerport goaltender for an easy empty-netter. Buck and Joey Greene tallied goals before the third quarter was over before Buck twice, Hodgins and Joey Johnson netted goals in the final quarter.

Spencerport’s Corey Sauers scored off a pass from Kaser to break the streak and account for the final Rangers goal before Cosgrove and Cameron Shipley teamed up for the final tally in the tenth minute for the final offense.

Saints goaltender Mike Yehl was credited with 18 saves as he and the C-C defense held the Rangers off the scoreboard for almost 27 consecutive minutes extending from late in the second quarter to late in the fourth.
