Kendall residents to have another opportunity to comment on tax breaks for Troutburg

A public hearing is set for Monday, February 3 at 7 p.m. at the Kendall Jr./Sr. High School Auditorium, 16687 Roosevelt Highway, regarding a possible tax abatement for the Cottages at Troutburg project.

This is the second public hearing on the issue hosted by the County of Orleans Industrial Development Agency.  The first hearing was held the morning of Jan. 15 at the Kendall Town Hall and drew a large crowd.  Many residents who commented said the size of the abatement was too generous.

The total abatement of $227,777 is part of a proposed 10-year PILOT (Payment in Lieu of Taxes) plan for the 126 acre former Salvation Army camp site which eventually may include 400 seasonal cottages.  The cottages are not part of the abatement proposal, officials say only the land and existing structures would receive the incentive.

COIDA estimates that once all 400 cottages are built, the total taxes paid per year would be $951,900.
The COIDA board may vote on the PILOT proposal at its February meeting.
