Spencerport Area Chamber provides opportunity to recognize local youth

Annually, the Spencerport Area Chamber of Commerce sponsors two opportunities to celebrate the students living in the Spencerport area. These programs include the Dennis Pelletier Youth Hall of Fame and the Helen C. Moore Scholarship.

The Youth Hall of Fame is an opportunity to recognize current high school juniors and seniors who have overcome a significant life challenge or personal tragedy, demonstrated leadership and community spirit through volunteer contributions, or exceptional personal achievement or employment.  Students must reside in the towns of Ogden, South Parma (zip code of 14559), or be a student in the Spencerport Central School District.

Candidates can be nominated by family members, Spencerport area businesses, community youth agencies, high school teachers, counselors and administrators, service organizations, and residents of Towns of Ogden and Parma. Nominations are to be submitted by Friday, February 28.

Hall of Fame recipients will be honored at a ceremony at the Ogden Town Offices on May 13 at 5:30 p.m.  A reception will follow.  Recipients’ photos will be displayed for one year.

The Helen C. Moore scholarship of $1,000 is awarded annually to a graduating senior who will pursue collegiate studies in business.

Candidates will be judged on scholastic achievement, community service, character, leadership and motivation. To be eligible, students must: reside in Ogden, south Parma (zip code of 14559) or be a student in the Spencerport Central School District; have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher at the end of the first semester of their senior year of high school; and have been accepted into a school of higher education with a major or minor in business.

To be considered, a student must submit the application cover page, a letter of application, a listing of community service activities, and a copy of his or her transcript through the first semester of senior year. All applications must be postmarked by the deadline of April 16, 2020. Selected applicants will be scheduled to interview with the Spencerport Area Chamber of Commerce’s scholarship selection committee.

Both the Hall of Fame nomination form and the scholarship application are available online at spencerportchamber.org.
