Gillam-Grant recognized

On December 16, at the Byron-Bergen Jr. Sr. High Winter Vocal & Band Concert, the Byron-Bergen School Board of Education presented the Gillam-Grant Community Center, 6966 West Bergen Road in Bergen, with the “Friends of Byron-Bergen Central School District Award” to a standing room only crowd.

The award recognizes Gillam-Grant Community Center’s service to the students of Byron-Bergen Central School District. Peggy Swapceinski, executive director, thanked the Board of Education for the recognition and said, “We will continue to foster our strong relationship with the school district over the next 40 years which will maintain the tradition Gillam-Grant Community Center has had over the past 40 years.”  The Gillam-Grant Community Center opened in 1974 by local resident Grant Gillam, providing social, cultural and educational programs for the entire community and is celebrating 40 years of service this year.

Today the facility includes a preschool program, Kid Zone After School program, Learning Center, physician office, youth recreation, senior services and various community education programs.
