Nine Byron-Bergen singers have been chosen to participate in the 2019 Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra Gala Holiday Pops concert. The students were selected via a diverse criteria, including NYSSMA solo scores, experience singing in choirs, teacher recommendation, and overall musicality.

“We have a wonderful group that will be singing with the RPO under the baton of Grammy-award winner Jeff Tyzik,” said Byron-Bergen Music Teacher and Choirmaster Laurence Tallman.

The students will sing with a select chorus made up of 200 exceptional vocal students from eight local counties. This prestigious choir will perform four concerts over the course of three days in Kodak Hall at the historic Eastman Theatre.

“This is my first year participating in the RPO concert,” said Byron-Bergen senior Isabelle Stevens. “The music is very challenging but it is very fun. I am excited to perform in Kodak Hall with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.”

The Byron-Bergen student participants are: sopranos Jacey Donahue, Hope Hersom, Kelly Ireland, and Isabelle Stevens; altos Justine Bloom, Sydney Brown, Hannah Van Skiver, Isabella Wilder; and baritone Caleb Calhoun.

The performances are December 20 at 8 p.m., December 21 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and December 22 at 2 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the RPO website https://rpo.org/event/gala-holiday-pops/2019-12-21/2/, or by calling the box office at 454-2100.
