Junior shooters sought for sporterifle team

The Conservation Club of Brockport has openings for interested participants on its 2019/2020 sporterifle team. The Conservation Club team participates in a statewide postal sporterifle league with more than 50 teams. The team is open to the public. There are openings for junior shooters between the ages of 12 and 19.

Sporterifle is an indoor target shooting sport. Participants shoot from an off-hand standing position without slings or aids at a paper target placed 50 feet from the shooter. Using 22 caliber rifles, the sport does not require expensive or special equipment to participate. Many shooters are competitive using equipment that they already own. Others may choose to use available loaned equipment.

Weekly shoots take place from September through March when the final shoot-off competition is held. Weekly shoots take place at the Conservation Club of Brockport indoor range at one of three available times on Tuesdays or Fridays. A final shoot-off and holiday shoot are also held at the club. An annual awards banquet is held locally. Top shooters and teams may enjoy a buffet meal and recognition for their accomplishments.
